Motion Analysis (Kinematic Sequencing)

The science behind pitching mechanicsBreaking it down…. your pitching mechanics, your body, and your pitching performance

It starts with You

Are you struggling

with a loss of control or pitch velocity?

Do you have a nagging baseball injury
that could be caused by your pitching mechanics?

Have you felt that your baseball pitching

should be better than what it is now?

Kinesiology is the study of human motion and looks at the muscles and joint actions as it applies to sport skill and technique. It allows us to understand and describe movements, key actions necessary for efficient movement, what muscles do what in the performance of the sport skill, and basically everything that involves understanding how sport motion can be most effective. Biomechanics is a specialized field of Kinesiology that deals with the factors that are physics related: speed, acceleration, levers, and force.

By applying scientific laws, sport scientists have come up with accurate descriptions and angles that should occur within efficient pitching mechanics. It is only by comparing your pitching to these sets of standards that you can understand what needs to be changed to make your pitching more effective. Additionally, knowledge of the key role of each muscle during each part of the pitching motion allows us to understand what specific movements need to be made more powerful in order to improve the pitch velocity.

I perform a qualitative analysis of your pitching which is a systematic observation and assessment of the quality of your performance based on the above-mentioned principles. The purpose of this scientific approach is to create the most appropriate intervention to improve you and move you in the direction of optimal velocity, accuracy, and consistency. Scientific teaching methods complete the cycle from the diagnosis and intervention to the solutions.

The Qualitative Analysis requires the integrated use of information from the following areas:

  • Biomechanics
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Structural Kinesiology
  • Motor Control & Development
  • Sport Psychology
  • Sports Medicine

The Game Plan: How I work

Gathering the information

You can expect the most integrated approach to the analysis, game plan, and intervention for the solutions to your pitching issues. You can also expect the same level of tremendous results that have been reported by players at all levels of baseball. The solutions will provide immediate results as well as give you a roadmap for your continuous progress over the coming years.

The next step: filming

The pitching motion, from the start of leg lift to foot strike, occurs in roughly a second -- at two seconds, the ball is out of your hands and one it's way towards home plate. Filming you from different angles provides the visual evidence of what you are actually doing during each moment of your pitch delivery. Regardless of whether we need to compare one type of pitch to another, or your wind-up delivery to the stretch, any scenario can be investigated.

How does zenolink work?

Zenolink is a three-dimensional (3-D) motion analysis product. Using mathematics, zenolink creates a 3-D representation or model of an individual performing a given activity or motion. Using that 3-D information, zenolink is able to make calculations and quantify biomechanical performance.zenolink uses standard video as a collection medium and a manual digitization process to create 3-D motion data. Utilizing standard video and manual digitizing results in maximum collection/processing flexibility and responsiveness with minimum cost expenditure.Using standard video cameras allows un-tethered and un-restricted data collection - NO MARKERS, NO WIRES. Data can be captured in all environments of interest including controlled and uncontrolled situations: indoor, outdoor, practice/game, and actual workplace setting.Since the only hardware required for collection are video cameras, it is easy and inexpensive to set up one or even multiple collection stations at as many locations as necessary.Manual digitizing provides both technical flexibility and responsiveness. The generation of 3-D anatomical data is not restricted by a fixed market set. This ensures optimal data generation under all conditions including the case of data collection error or oversight.

Followed by: pitching analysisUsing biomechanical and kinesiological principles as a basis, an analysis is performed to determine the efficiency of your performance as well as your effectiveness in the execution of the key actions necessary for the pitching motion. Reasons for injuries or pain can be explained as well as areas where improvement can take place. what does zenolink tell me?zenolink measures an individual's biomechanics during a given activity. Biomechanical parameters include joint range of motion, body segment speed and core posture. However, zenolink goes beyond just making static measurements to mapping complex movement patterns. Using patented and proprietary data visualization techniques, dynamic coordination can be objectively quantified and evaluated - functional performance assessed.Physical attributes (ie. strength, flexibility, speed) can be directly related to faulty movement patterns. Faulty movement patterns can be correlated with break downs in performance. In addition to mapping movement patterns, zenolink provides numerical assessment of parameters. This information is essential in both making a diagnosis and monitoring the effectiveness of a treatment/training program. Normals (both pattern and numeric) are provided for guidance in assessing data from welch-e technologies' database of research. The result: your custom-designed game plan...determining where to start and how to affect the changeThe sessions begin, the changes occur immediately, and before you know it, you are a better pitcher!.A real solution includes teaching you what you’re doing, what you should be doing, how to feel it, how to strengthen it, and ways to be able to repeat it. This involves body positioning, movement education, general and skill specific exercises and drills, and ways to integrate the new skill into your existing pitching style.NAVCO S.A.'s PhilosophyNo matter the age or level of a pitcher, each pitcher needs to understand what is supposed to be happening during each phase of his pitching delivery. The pitcher needs to see his pitching motion on film with feedback as to how well he produces the necessary movements. He then needs to feel and be taught how to improve that which needs improving…while retaining the uniqueness of his particular pitching style.Pitchers are athletes that pitch. For too long, pitchers have been disregarded and neglected when it comes to serious powerful training methods. For this reason, injuries that should not occur happen and sometimes end promising careers too soon. Matching the needs of the mechanics and the physiology of the pitcher to the pitcher’s training is essential. Are you ready?
